The Symphony of Justice โ Finding Your Place in the World
๐ The Symphony of Justice โ Finding Your Place in the World
Happy February 20th!
Today is a day that calls us to look outward and upward. It is the World Day of Social Justice, a time to reflect on the systems that connect us all. It is also the anniversary of John Glennโs historic orbit around the Earth in 1962, and for those who enjoy a bit of cozy comfort, itโs National Love Your Pet Day.
This trifectaโJustice, Exploration, and Connectionโperfectly mirrors our self-love journey. We must seek justice for ourselves (Purpose), have the courage to explore our potential (Passion), and nurture the unconditional bonds that sustain us (Pleasure).
1. World Day of Social Justice: Inner Equity (Purpose)
Social justice is about fairness and recognizing the inherent dignity of every human being. In our self-love practice, we must apply this internally. Are you being a "fair judge" to yourself, or are you holding yourself to impossible standards that you would never demand of others?
๐ The Action: The Internal Fairness Hearing
Think of a "mistake" you made recently. Now, imagine a friend made that same mistake. What would you say to them?
Self-Love Tip (Purpose): Practice "Internal Equity." Give yourself the same grace, advocacy, and benefit of the doubt that you give to the world.
Black History Connection: We honor activists like Bayard Rustin, who worked tirelessly for social justice and civil rights. He understood that personal integrity and public justice are inextricably linked.
The Goal: When you treat yourself with justice, you stop being your own oppressor.
2. The Orbital Perspective: Expanding Your Horizon (Passion)
When John Glenn orbited the Earth, he saw the world without bordersโa single, glowing marble in the dark. This "Overview Effect" often changes an astronaut's entire perspective on life.
๐ The Action: The 30,000-Foot View
Step back from your daily "to-do" list and look at the "orbit" of your life.
Self-Love Tip (Passion): Ask yourself: In the grand scheme of my life story, will today's minor stress matter? Use this "orbital perspective" to shrink your problems and expand your dreams.
The Result: Perspective is the fuel for Passion. When you see how vast the possibilities are, the small "gravity" of daily doubt loses its pull.
3. Love Your Pet Day: Unconditional Comfort (Pleasure)
Pets provide a form of love that is simple, present, and entirely non-judgmental. They donโt care about your productivity; they care about your presence.
๐ The Action: The "Pet-Like" Presence
Whether you have a pet or not, spend 15 minutes today practicing "Unconditional Presence."
Self-Love Tip (Pleasure): Sit quietly, breathe, and simply be. No self-improvement goals, no checking the clock. Just the pure pleasure of existing in your own skin.
The Goal: Animals teach us that we are worthy of affection simply because we exist. Replicate that for yourself today.
"To be afraid is to behave as if the truth were not true." โ Bayard Rustin
This February 20th, be a champion for your own internal justice. Look at your life from a higher perspective, and grant yourself the unconditional kindness you so freely give to the companions in your life.
What is one area of your life where you need to be a "fairer judge" to yourself?
